Event Details

This year, Games:EDU will take place on 20 May at the University of Abertay in Dundee.

This year, the main focus of Games:EDU has been moved away from bringing game development academics and industry together, towards creating a forum where academics can get together and discuss how to create and maintain the best possible learning environments for their students, now and into the future.

Games:EDU offers a unique opportunity for games lecturers and academics to transform UK game development education, coming together to share best practice and understanding with the explicit intent of not just supplying workers to industry, but truly learning to offer the best in game development education and academic understanding to students.

With a backdrop of one of the UK’s flagship computer games education centres – the University of Abertay – delegates will have the opportunity to debate new approaches, as well as interact with developers & recent graduates now working within studios.

With more progressive studios realising that no graduate will be 100% prepared to enter a studio without further specific training, it will also provide a forum for game development educators to address the criticisms leveled at them that sometimes HE standards are lacking.

The programme will include topics such as:

How can budgets be optimised at institutions that can’t afford to install state of the art PC labs?
How important is accreditation from bodies such as Skillset for participating institutions?
Can FE effectively prime students to go onto HE games courses?
How can you strike the right balance between full-time lecturers and part-time lecturers from industry?
When the games industry is so hard to enter and placements are in short supply, can a course really be considered a failure if graduates are competent artists and programmers?

Places cost just £150 if you book your place before 30 April 2010.
